When you try to access a URL on a website protected by Cloudflare and the Cloudflare message “Error1020: Access Denied” may appear. Cloudflare may block your IP address if it believes it is dangerous or spam and lock you out.
The issue is usually in Cloudflare being too protective and blocking IP addresses that pose no threat. But it could also be a browser issue. These are the solutions for error 1020 of Cloudflare.
1. Check for Site-Wide Issues
You can determine if the issue is specific to one page or the entire site. You can rule out a site-wide issue by looking at any other publicly available page.
If other pages work but you encounter an error on a particular page, you should close the website and visit the same page again. If the website asks you to log in, be sure to log in.
If the issue occurs on multiple pages or the entire site even on pages that do not require logins the issue is likely a browser related issue. Therefore, you must rule out browser-related issues next.
First, make sure the browser you are using is the issue. See if the error occurs on another browser by accessing the same website using a different one.
If the page is working fine in a different browser, you can try these steps to resolve the issue with your primary browser. If the problem persists in all browsers, it may be a connection problem or IP address blocking. Both are likely to be resolved with the three solutions below.
3. Give Your Router a Fresh Start
Cloudflare’s CDN may not allow you to connect. This may be due to some settings in your router’s cache. When you restart your router, it clears its cache. Rebooting your router is an excellent solution to resolve the issue. Restart your router and see if that resolves the issue.
4. Enable/Disable VPN
A VPN changes your IP address to one that the VPN server assigns. Connecting your computer to a VPN eliminates the IP blocking issue. If you are not connected to a VPN, you should consider installing a free VPN in your browser. This will give you an updated IP address, which can allow you access to the website.
If the website can open when you access it through a VPN connection, it is most likely an IP blocking issue. Therefore, you should make sure that you are using VPN every time you visit this site.
Cloudflare’s CDN may perceive your IP address as a security risk if you are already using a VPN. You can disable it temporarily, or connect to another server provided by the VPN service.
5. Check Date and Time Settings
Although it is less likely, incorrect date and time settings on your computer can result in disconnection from the server. This may cause the connection to fail. It’s easy to overlook small details, so before implementing browser-level fixes, make sure the date and time are set correctly.
If you are unable to configure them correctly, it is time to consider browser-based solutions.
6. Give Your Browser a Fresh Start
This may be due to a temporary browser glitch that has caused your CDN to restrict access. Close the site and restart your browser to access the same page.
7. Clear the Browser’s Cache
A cache that is not updated can prevent you from accessing the web page you have been waiting for. If you don’t clear your browser’s cache for a while, any scripts or files that aren’t up to date will remain on your computer. Cloudflare may consider your connection spam in case of this.
Try clearing your browser cache once to test if it makes an impact. This method is different for each of the main browsers: Microsoft Edge (Chrome), Firefox (Firefox), and Safari (Safari). The website can be accessed after clearing the cache.
8. Ensure Cookies Are Enabled
If you visit a site, your browser may store data on your device. This information, also known as a cookie, allows services such as Cloudflare to control your access to websites. Your browser must allow websites and services to use cookie permissions. Cookies must be enabled in your browser for this to work.
You can check if your browser has enabled cookies by following the directions below:
If you are using cookies Clear your browser cookies. This ensures that expired cookies are not the cause of the problem.
9. Rule Out Extension Interference
Sometimes cookies are enabled in the browser, but an extension can interfere and block them. This interference can lead to unexpected issues. To get rid of any potential cause it is recommended to disable the extensions one at a time.
10. Call on the Website Admin
There may be an issue with the website if none of these fixes have worked so far. Contact the website administrator to determine if Cloudflare has blocked any IP addresses or countries, as well as other information.
The site administrator will list your IP in the Cloudflare settings or improve their firewall policies to restore access. If the administrator cannot resolve the issue, you can ask them to contact Cloudflare support on your behalf.
Resolve the Cloudflare Error 1020: Access Denied Issue
Follow these steps to fix the error and get the page working again.
If none of these solutions worked, try resetting or reinstalling your browser. If this fails you can always modify the last option of your DNS settings.
