NordLynx is a new generation technology that makes VPN connections faster than ever
, /PRNewswire/ — NordLayer, an adaptive enterprise network access security solution developed by NordVPN, introduces NordLynx – a new VPN protocol. It offers an improved connection, faster speeds, and better security measures than other VPN protocols.
“Cyber threats are constantly evolving. Therefore, as a cybersecurity company, we cannot stop innovating. With the help of NordLynx, our customers can feel more secure. In addition, the NordLynx protocol also shows excellent performance. Based on our internal tests , It is much faster than all current tunneling protocols and blurs the line between direct and routed connection,” says Juta Gurinaviciute, Chief Technology Officer at NordLayer.
NordVPN, the leading consumer VPN, launched NordLynx for its customers back in 2020. Now this state-of-the-art protocol is also available to NordLayer customers.
This new generation protocol has its roots in the open source WireGuard® protocol – NordLynx was built on top of this framework. As such, NordLynx has some differences from the standard WireGuard® protocol and offers benefits exclusive to NordVPN and NordLayer users.
NordLynx combines the high speeds of WireGuard® with the Network Address Translation (NAT) system to protect user privacy. This system allows users to establish a secure VPN connection without storing any identifiable data on a server. Dynamic local IP addresses remain assigned only while the session is active. Meanwhile, user authentication is done using a secure external database.
NordLynx – the future industry standard
One of the main benefits of NordLynx is that it uses an extremely lightweight code base. For comparison, it only uses 4,000 lines of code, while OpenVPN uses 100,000. Because the scope is 25 times smaller, it’s much easier to fix and patch potential security vulnerabilities. NordLynx makes it much easier to keep each user safe.
In terms of speed, more than 256,886 speed tests were run and NordLynx proved to be the fastest protocol available to NordLayer.
“We are proud to be able to offer this state-of-the-art protocol to our business customers. Since introducing this protocol to consumers, we have worked tirelessly to implement it at NordLayer as well,” said Juta Gurinaviciute, Chief Technology Officer at NordLayer.
NordLynx will be a default option in the NordLayer app, but users can manually select other tunneling protocols.
The WireGuard® protocol was created by Jason A. Donenfeld.

Is the NordLynx protocol secure?
NordLynx is secure as NordVPN uses an innovative double NAT system that fills in the gaps left by the WireGuard protocol. This means that users will get a new, randomized WireGuard IP address when using NordLynx. Also, during my testing, NordLynx has proven to be the most secure protocol – and the fastest.
Which NordVPN protocol is the most secure? We recommend it for the most security-conscious users. IKEv2/IPsec significantly increases user security and privacy by using strong cryptographic algorithms and keys. NordVPN uses NGE (Next Generation Encryption) in IKEv2/IPsec.
Is NordLynx a good protocol?
I researched and tested NordLynx myself and was impressed that it really lives up to the hype. It’s lightning fast, secure, and lightweight. In my speed tests, it outperformed both OpenVPN and IKEv2, two of the most trusted VPN protocols!

What is the best VPN protocol for NordVPN?
Many VPN experts recommend OpenVPN as the most secure protocol. It uses 256-bit encryption by default, but also offers other ciphers such as 3DES (Triple Data Encryption Standard), Blowfish, CAST-128, and AES (Advanced Encryption Standard).
Which is better for VPN TCP or UDP? Faster Speed – UDP VPN service offers significantly faster speeds than TCP. For this reason, it is the preferred protocol when streaming HD videos or downloading torrents/p2p. Preferred – UDP VPN tunnels are the preferred OpenVPN connection method if your network supports it.
What should my VPN protocol be?

Is NordLynx better than IKEv2?
NordLynx competes with the best protocols in terms of speed, being equally fast on desktop apps and mobile devices, while OpenVPN and IKEv2 are better suited for certain devices.
Does NordVPN use OpenVPN?
What OpenVPN ports does NordVPN use? NordVPN lets you connect to OpenVPN over both TCP and UDP. Use port 443 for OpenVPN TCP connections.
What VPN protocol does NordVPN use? NordVPN uses the IKEv2/IPsec and OpenVPN protocols, which are known for their security and reliability. From 2020 users can also choose NordLynx which is based on the WireGuard protocol. It offers a high-speed connection while offering top-notch security.
Which VPN uses the OpenVPN protocol?
Surfshark with OpenVPN The newer service, Surfshark, is a consumer VPN that offers OpenVPN, IKEv2, L2TP/IPSec, SSTP, Wireguard, and PPTP as options. The service boasts high speeds and reliable connections, along with several other features.
How do I enable OpenVPN on NordVPN?
Select “Open in OpenVPN”. Enter your NordVPN service credentials, save the password to a keychain and tap “Add” in the top right. You can find your NordVPN service credentials on the Nord account dashboard. A pop-up window will appear asking for permission to add OpenVPN to your VPN configurations.
