- Proton VPN is a VPN service operated by Proton, a Switzerland-based company specializing in privacy-related services. It has an excellent reputation among members of the How-to Geek editorial board, so I gave Proton VPN a try to see what it was all about.
- Overall I really like Proton VPN and how it allows you to bundle several other services like secure email and cloud storage for a reasonable price. It also gets through to Netflix fairly easily — not an easy task. At the same time, however, it falls short of the mark in a few key places, meaning that while it earns a spot among the best VPNs, it misses out on the top spot.
- When you connect to the internet through a VPN, all your ISP knows is that you are connecting to a VPN server. And when you’re connected to a server, the service sees its IP address instead of your real one, so your real IP address can’t be tracked.
