Surfshark calls it Dynamic MultiHop and it’s now available in the iOS app. It should arrive in Android, Windows, and macOS in the next few weeks. Currently, a popup says “This is a new feature we’re trying out,” suggesting it’s not fully ready yet.

Previously, users could only use preselected server pairs, after the update they can select both locations manually. The real benefit here is the extra layer of privacy you get from using two servers, and you shouldn’t expect your connection to be any faster as a result: it only happens on very rare occasions. In fact, since the connection has to be transmitted between two different servers in different locations, the connection speed is more likely to decrease.
It is worth noting that they do not have to be in different countries. Where Surfshark has servers in multiple locations within the same country, such as B. London and Glasgow in the UK, you can choose these for your custom connection, and as long as you’re actually in that country or nearby you shouldn’t see it drop too much, although we haven’t had time to substantiate that theory yet testing.
If you have the updated version of the Surfshark app, tap Locations and then MultiHop. You’ll also see a Create Connection button along with options to select the fastest, closest, or the preset list of country combinations.
Tap on it and you can choose entry and exit servers in 100+ countries. And you can see previous pairs of servers you’ve used in the MultiHop list and mark your favorites, as well as delete any you don’t use – or won’t use.
Surfshark is not the first VPN to offer its users a customizable double VPN. Hide.me added the same feature to its apps back in March 2021.
